“Hoochie Coochie Man” 3-String & 4-String Lesson ~ Slide and Fretted Arrangements

A good friend of mine, Dusty Hawk, has poured a lot of his life into creating and maintaining a Facebook Group called The Beginner’z Box… on Facebook.  His goal of helping to connect like-minded builders and players with the common interest of DIY Handmade Roots Instruments, has inspired a loyal following and gives the community a location to ask questions and talk shop without feeling like anyone is going to say “dumb question.”

To show a little support for that effort, I wanted to offer a few lessons specifically for The Beginner’z Box, giving some in-depth walkthroughs of simple arrangements of some of the most cherished Blues classics for the 3-string and 4-string guitar, whether it has frets or not.

The first lesson in this series is on “Hoochie Coochie Man.”  The rhythm guitar riffs in this song introduce some of the most important and fundamental Blues Guitar techniques, such as call-and-response, muting, rhythmic syncopation, 12-bar-Blues, and more.  Hope you enjoy it!

This 4-String Cigar Box Guitar was built by Charles Atchison Folk Artisan.  www.CharlesAtchison.com.  He builds amazing handmade American Roots Instruments, and wrote a comprehensive reference for builders on how to construct these guitars.  Definitely check out his website!

The guitar slide I used in this lesson is the Justin Johnson Signature Slide from Rocky Mountain Slide Company.  You can find out more about the design and get your own HERE.
